Dark Sky Estate Lighting & Tree Moonlighting – Goat Ridge, Britannia Beach

The steep terrain and scale of the property presented several challenges, particularly in illuminating functional areas without disrupting the natural beauty of the surroundings. Instead of traditional path lights, which had been used unsuccessfully in the past, we created a safe and elegant lighting solution for the steep staircase along the side of the home using a combination of downlighting and uplighting. By placing fixtures high in the trees, we achieved a natural moonlighting effect that washed over the landscape in soft, warm tones. Around the perimeter of the property, strategic uplighting on select trees created depth and defined the boundary while showcasing the stunning landscape that Britannia Beach is known for.

The client was highly concerned about protecting their dark skies and unobstructed ocean views. To meet this need, we designed a system using 2700K warm white, low-wattage fixtures that produced a subtle, welcoming glow without glare. Key areas such as the fire pit and stairs were carefully illuminated for safety and usability, while the rest of the property retained its natural nighttime ambiance. We also integrated a custom timer system, allowing the lights to turn off automatically at specific hours. This ensured the homeowners could enjoy their property at night while still having the option for complete darkness during the very early morning hours.

For this project, we used powder-coated aluminum fixtures with a 10-year manufacturer warranty and paired them with lamps carrying a 5-year warranty.
